Article Types
The 8 article types in the Writer, what each changes in structure and schema, products to compare, and how length is chosen.
In the Writer, the right panel's "Article Type" block sets the structure of the article. Choose the type before you press Generate; to change the type of a written article, pick another one and regenerate. A "Recommended" badge marks the type Rankfender suggests from the keyword's intent and the pages that rank for it.
The 8 types
| Type | Shown as | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| News Articles | Breaking news and updates | Short by default and marked up as a NewsArticle. |
| Blog Posts | General informative content | The standard structure: answer-first sections, FAQ, takeaways and sources. |
| How-To Guides | Step-by-step tutorials | Numbered steps. Gets HowTo schema when the article has a numbered list of at least 3 steps. |
| Listicles | Top 10, best of lists | One real product or option per section, opening with a one-line verdict and closing with pros and cons. Gets ItemList schema. Items that are not real products are flagged in review. |
| Comparison Blogs | A vs B comparisons | One option per section, ending with "Best for:", prices in a structured note and a comparison table. Neutral tone: your own product is only recommended in a clearly labelled section. |
| Technical Articles | In-depth technical content | Written as an in-depth reference guide. |
| Product Reviews | Product or service reviews | Built on the products you list. A review of your own brand on your own site is never published automatically. |
| Glossary Pages | Definition and terminology | Opens with the definition, then explains the term. |
A "vs" keyword between two concepts, such as two lowercase words or two acronyms ("SEO vs GEO"), is written as a blog post, not as a product comparison.
Products to compare
For Listicles, Comparison Blogs and Product Reviews, the panel shows "Products to Compare (Optional)". Enter the real product or service names, separated by commas, and press "Save Products". This keeps placeholders such as "Product A" out of the article.
How long each type is
Rankfender picks the target length in this order:
- Your "Target Word Count" in Content Settings.
- The length suggested by the pages that rank for the keyword, when it is above 1,000 words.
- The default for the type: News 800, Listicles 2,000, Reviews 2,500, Comparisons 3,500, How-To 4,500, other types 3,500 words.
The result always stays between 500 and 6,000 words, and at most 4,000 on Essential. The finished article lands within 15 % of the target.
Default type for new articles
Content Settings › Article Type sets the type of new articles: Blog Post, How-To Guide, Listicle / Best Of, Comparative / VS, Review / Test, Pillar Content or Case Study, or "Let AI choose optimal article type". Pillar Content is written as an in-depth guide; Case Study has its own structure.
Tip
The type sets the structure. How much your brand appears is set by "Content Generation Style" in Content Settings: Educational/Scientific, for example, writes with no brand mentions.
