Complete checklist for setting up your first Rankfender project successfully.

Setup Overview

Setting up your first project correctly ensures the best results from Rankfender. Follow this checklist to get everything configured properly.

Step 1: Create Your Project

  1. From the dashboard, click "New Project"
  2. Enter your project name (usually your brand or website name)
  3. Add your website URL
  4. Select your primary language and country
  5. Choose your industry category

Tip: Choose your language and country carefully—these settings affect keyword research and AI visibility tracking.

Step 2: Complete Your Brand Book

Navigate to Project Settings → Brand Book and fill out:

Brand Information

  • Brand name and tagline
  • Description and mission
  • Products/services offered
  • Target audience
  • Unique value proposition

Visual Identity

  • Upload your logo
  • Define brand colors (primary, secondary, accent)
  • Select fonts and typography style

Brand Voice & Positioning

  • Tone (professional, casual, friendly, etc.)
  • Writing style preferences
  • Words to use and avoid
  • Brand personality traits

Pro Tip: Use the "Generate with AI" button to get suggestions based on your website and industry.

Step 3: Add Competitors

Go to Project Settings → Competitors and add 3-5 main competitors:

  1. Enter competitor website URLs
  2. Rankfender analyzes their content strategy
  3. Compare your performance against theirs

Competitor data helps inform content recommendations and keyword opportunities.

Step 4: Define Personas (Optional but Recommended)

Navigate to Project Settings → Personas to create target audience profiles:

  • Demographics (age, location, job role)
  • Goals and pain points
  • Preferred content formats
  • Search behavior

Personas help Rankfender tailor content to resonate with your specific audience.

Step 5: Connect Integrations

Go to Project Settings → Integrations:

WordPress Connection

If you use WordPress, connect it to enable automatic publishing:

  1. Install the Rankfender WordPress plugin
  2. Copy the API key from Rankfender
  3. Paste it into the plugin settings
  4. Test the connection

Other Integrations

  • Google Search Console: Import keyword performance data
  • Google Analytics: Track content performance
  • Zapier/Make: Create custom automation workflows

Step 6: Import Your Sitemap

Navigate to Project Settings → Sitemap:

  1. Enter your sitemap URL (usually yoursite.com/sitemap.xml)
  2. Rankfender analyzes your existing content
  3. Enables intelligent internal linking

Step 7: Add Your First Keywords

Go to Keywords → Opportunities:

  1. Enter seed keywords related to your business
  2. Review opportunity scores and metrics
  3. Add 10-20 high-potential keywords to track
  4. Mark keywords for content generation

Step 8: Configure Content Settings

Navigate to Content → Settings:

  • Set default article length (1,000-2,500 words)
  • Configure tone and reading level
  • Set internal/external linking rules
  • Choose auto-publish preferences

Step 9: Set Up AI Visibility Tracking

Go to AI Visibility → Topics:

  1. Create 3-5 topic areas relevant to your business
  2. Add prompts (questions) for each topic
  3. Enable tracking for AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity)
  4. Set check frequency (daily recommended)

Step 10: Generate Your First Content

Now you're ready to create content:

Option A: Manual Generation

  1. Go to Content → Generator
  2. Select an article type
  3. Choose a keyword
  4. Review the proposed structure
  5. Click "Generate"

Option B: Enable Autopilot

  1. Go to Content → Autopilot
  2. Enable autopilot mode
  3. Set content frequency (e.g., 2 articles per week)
  4. Choose keywords from your list
  5. Rankfender generates content automatically

Verification Checklist

Before you start using Rankfender heavily, verify:

  • ✓ Brand Book is complete (at least 80% filled)
  • ✓ At least 3 competitors added
  • ✓ WordPress integration connected (if applicable)
  • ✓ Sitemap imported successfully
  • ✓ 10+ keywords added and tracked
  • ✓ Content settings configured
  • ✓ At least 1 AI visibility topic created
  • ✓ First article generated successfully
